FAQ's

 

 

What is Trek?

Trek is an opportunity to learn more about the difficulties endured by inspiring people who built the church in the West, but also throughout the world wherever they may live.

 

How do I participate?

Trek is open to all youth ages 14-18 (that turn 14 during 2022) in the Grace Stake.  Please talk to your youth leaders about participating.  To register, click on the Registration button above. 
 

How do I prepare?

Trek is a spiritually and physically demanding experience. You will need to prepare mentally, physically, and spiritually. 


Other Questions: 

  • Where will Trek be held and what is the terrain like?

    • Trek will be held at the Martin’s Cove Handcart Trek Site near Alcova, WY.

    • The terrain includes open meadows of prairie grass and sage with rolling hills.

  • The temperatures are expected to be in the low 60’s during the day.

  • How will participants be transported to the Trek site?

    • The Grace Stake will be arranging buses to transport trekkers to and from Martin’s Cove.

  • What is the distance Trek participants will be asked to walk each day?​

    • Trek participants will be walking and pulling a handcart 7 miles per day.

  • What Medical provisions are provided at Trek?

    • Several medical professionals will be attending and helping as needed.

    • A medical center will be set up near each campground.

    • Each handcart will be equipped with a small first aid kit.

    • An ice chest will be provided for medication that needs to be refrigerated.

    • Prescription medication will be checked in and given by medical personnel.

    • All participants need to have a signed medication form.

  • Why does the Registration Release Form need to be turned in now?

    • Food Specialists need to be aware of food allergies as they plan daily menus.

    • Supplies need to be ordered, such as food, bandanas, etc.

    • Medical personnel need to be prepared for trekkers medical and special considerations.

    • What types of meals will be served?

    • Trek participants will receive three full meals each day.

    • All food will be planned and prepared by Food Specialists from our stake

    • Each trek family will have a snack bucket on its handcart.

  • Will there be bathroom facilities on the trail?

    • Yes. Portable bathrooms will be available approximately every 3 miles of trek and at each campsite.

  • What are the sleeping accommodations at Trek?

    • Each Trek family will have three tents, one each for Young Men, Young Women, and Ma/Pa.

    • Tents, sleeping bags and other similar gear will be transported to the campground by an equipment crew.

  • Will water be readily available for drinking to prevent dehydration?

    • Yes. Trek participants will be required to bring their own water bottle to keep with them at all times.

    • All participants will be required to drink water along the trail to prevent dehydration.

    • Each handcart will have a water container to re-fill their personal water bottles.

  • Is dehydration a problem at Trek?

    • Yes. The slightest bit of dehydration will cause a decrease in your physical performance and FUN.

    • By the time you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

    • Heat is a big factor in dehydration.

    • The more dehydrated the body becomes, the less efficient it is at cooling itself.

  • Will water be available for showering, washing hair or for water activities?

    • No. Water will not be available for showering or washing hair.

    • Hand-washing stations will be available at the campground for washing hands prior to meals

  • Why are electronic devices not allowed on Trek?

    • To truly feel the Spirit, we need to tune out all other distractions.

    • Participants will have more time to interact with their Trek Family.

  • Why is it strongly suggested that we wear glasses instead of contacts?

    • Heat, wind, and blowing dust will make wearing contact lenses uncomfortable.

    • Contacts are expensive and can be easily lost, especially in the above conditions.

  • Should trekkers wear pioneer-style clothing on Trek and where can I get it?

    • Yes. Trekkers are responsible to obtain their own pioneer clothing. Refer to the Equipment List for details.

  • What types of activities will trekkers be able to enjoy while on Trek?

    • Pioneer games each evening

    • Western Dancing

    • Reenactments of pioneer stories along the trail

    • Women’s Pull

    • River Crossing (Weather dependent)

    • Firesides, Family Councils, testimony meeting, Reflection time

    • Music

  • What should I do if I have other questions?
